On June 16-19, 2021, drummer, composer and bandleader Bobby Previte will conduct a four-day intensive workshop over Zoom, exploring music making through “free” (no written music) improvisation. This is a wide ranging course encompassing many areas of study, including composing and arranging, which are germane to the process of improvisation. Participants will explore density, form, dynamics, emotion, tempo, silence, register, and orchestration to create coherent works. At the conclusion of the course, each participant will write a “score for improvisation” for someone else in the group to perform. The composer and performer will work together to realize the score as a video document.

Hudson Hall’s programs are made possible with support from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
